OS maps are great for finding pools but.........
12/12/10
Set off for a Sunday swim with Owen, i checked the OS map and spied a couple of pools to check out. We went to Rhoose Point first but the lake was frozen over, will be going back in the summer for a swim though. The pools are right next to a new housing estate but there are some secluded areas if you search them out. There are 'danger deep water' and 'no swimming' signs.
We walked down to the sea at Rhoose point it was real nice there and you could see thousands of fossils in the cliff. Was tempted to go in the sea but saved myself for a nice looking pool at Aberthaw.
When we got to Aberthaw we walked some way to where the pool was supposed to be but all that was there was basically a muddy puddle.
No swim today.
The lesson is 'ALL SPOTS MUST BE CHECKED ON GOOGLE EARTH BEFORE MAKING THE EFFORT TO VISIT THEM!!!!!!!!'

Witches Point
05/12/10
Went for a quick swim at Witches Point this morning, it was another icy day. I wasn't the only one who got up early though, when i was walking through the castle gardens to get to Dunraven Bay i walked round a corner almost straight into a woman in fish net stockings and 'sexy' bra and knickers, i wondered if i was dreaming for a moment until i spotted a man with a camera who was taking her picture. I said 'good morning' and went on my way.
The waterfall at the cliff was good, you could see a rainbow in it. The sea felt really cold so i didn't stay in for long. Brrr Brrr

River Ewenny
28/11/10
Just been for a quick swim at my local spot on the Ewenny River, shorts and wetsuit boots. The horses in the fields were giving me some funny looks. Air temp was -4, water was pretty cold but the harshest thing was getting changed after the swim with wet feet on the frozen ground, oh, i don't think i need to bother with the vasectomy now either!

Fault line tidal pool
21/11/10
I have had my eye on this tidal pool for a while. Exposed at low water at "the deeps" between Ogmore and Southerndown i have put crab pots out in it before and caught a good supply of velvet swimming crabs. These crabs are natures thugs, very very mean they go about looking for a fight and although their claws are small they pack one hell of a punch.
The pool runs parallel with the shore, along an old straight fault line in the rocks. Its a natural swimming lane for one person. Luckily, i didn't get mugged by any crabs but i was nervous as i swam through the seaweed.
